CEFR English Proficiency Test
Know your English level – on the international CEFR scale
One test, four skills, about 40 minutes. The Education House English Proficiency Test adapts to every answer, so children, teenagers and adults are each measured precisely at their own level. You get a CEFR level for each skill, a certificate that anyone can check online, and a personal report on what to practise next.

Why this test
Most English tests give everyone the same questions. Ours doesn’t.
It adapts to you
Every answer chooses the next question: a right answer leads to a harder one, a wrong answer to an easier one. Nobody gets bored with questions that are too easy or discouraged by questions that are far too hard.
4
All four skills
Grammar and vocabulary, reading, listening, writing and speaking – not just a multiple-choice grammar check.
A–C
An international scale
Results use the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), the scale used by schools, universities and employers around the world.
A certificate you can prove
Every certificate has a unique number and a QR code. Anyone can check it on our website in seconds.

The test
The four parts of the test
The number of questions depends on the student: the test stops as soon as it has measured the level precisely enough.

Use of English
Grammar, vocabulary and reading: sentences, dialogues, notices, messages and short texts.

Listening
Everyday conversations, announcements and short talks with clear British voices. Each recording can be played twice.

Writing
Spelling, word order and short typed answers.

Speaking
The student answers questions aloud about pictures and short spoken questions. Answers are checked by speech recognition on our own server and reviewed by a teacher when the computer is unsure.

Where can I use the certificate?
Commonly used for
- Placement in schools, English Programmes (EP/MEP) and language courses
- Showing a student’s progress from year to year
- Student portfolios, CVs and job applications
- Staff training and placement in companies
Please note
- This is Education House’s own test, reported on the international CEFR scale.
- It does not replace IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC or Cambridge exams where an organisation requires one of them – for example for visas and immigration, government posts or some university admissions.
- Each school, university or employer decides which certificates it accepts. If you need the certificate for a specific purpose, check with that organisation first.
The certificate
A certificate anyone can verify
An A4 certificate with:
- the test taker’s name in English and Thai
- the overall CEFR level and score, and a level for each of the four skills
- fine security patterns and micro-text that are hard to copy or edit
- a unique certificate number and a QR code

Check any certificate online. Scan the QR code or go to cefr.eh.ac.th/verify and type the number. The page shows the results stored by Education House.

Download it yourself. After the test, go to cefr.eh.ac.th/download, log in with your username and password, and save the certificate as a PDF.
The certificate shows your level on the date of the test.

Introduction price
249 THB499 THB
Online – from your home or office, at a time that suits you. Every test includes a certificate and a personal report.
- Normal price 499 THB per test.
- Introduction price 249 THB per test, so you save 250 THB.
- Buy 5, pay 4: 5 tests for 996 THB, about 199 THB each. 10 tests cost 1,992 THB.
- A retake costs 249 THB.
Tip for parents: Let your child do the test alone. The test is designed to find the real level; help from an adult gives a level that is too high, and then lessons or classes may be too difficult.
For schools and companies
Testing for schools and organisations
Test a whole class, a year group or your staff in one session. Students log in with their own username and password, teachers watch progress live, and results are ready the moment each student finishes.
- Classes of up to 50 at the same time, in any normal browser – no software to install. Safe Exam Browser is supported if your school uses it.
- Login slips printed for each student (8 per A4 page).
- Live view for teachers: who has started, which part they are in, and who needs help. The teacher can start the test for the whole room at the same moment.
- Results straight away: CEFR level and score for each skill, a report card for every student, and an Excel export for the whole group.
- Progress over the school year: a Pre-test in May and a Post-test in February show how much each student, class and school has improved.
- Certificates for everyone in one PDF, ready to print.
- Questions that fit Thai schools: written for Thai students from Grade 1 to Grade 12, following the Thai Basic Education Core Curriculum, with English instructions and Thai translations.
- Choose the parts: all four skills, or only some (for example Use of English and Listening) for a shorter test.
- For companies: test applicants or staff before training, place them in the right course, and measure progress after the course.

Technical requirements
What you need to take the test
Device
- Computer (Windows, Mac or Chromebook) – recommended
- Tablet (iPad or Android) – works well, upright or sideways
- Phone – works; a computer or tablet gives the most comfortable experience
Browser
- A current version of Google Chrome (recommended), Microsoft Edge, Safari or Firefox
- Nothing to install. JavaScript must be on (it is by default).
- When the test asks to use the microphone, press Allow.
Headset
- Headphones with a microphone (a headset) for the Listening and Speaking parts.
- Wired headsets are the most reliable. Check that the computer uses the headset microphone, not a built-in one.
- The test has a sound check and a microphone check before it starts.
Internet
- One person: a stable home internet or 4G/5G connection of at least 5 Mbit/s.
- A group: about 10 Mbit/s download and 5 Mbit/s upload for a class of 30 (more is better). One test uses roughly 5–8 MB of data, mostly the listening recordings and the spoken answers.
- If the connection drops, nothing is lost: the test shows “Connecting…”, and every answer is saved on the server. Students can even continue on another computer.
Room and time
- A quiet place – background noise makes the Speaking part harder to hear.
- About 40 minutes for the test, plus a few minutes to log in and practise. Plan 50–60 minutes in total.
For schools (group testing)
- Test one computer in the testing room before the test day.
- Make sure the Wi-Fi can handle the number of devices (as a rule of thumb, no more than about 30 devices per access point).
- Charge tablets and laptops, and have spare headsets.
- If your school uses Safe Exam Browser, we can provide the configuration file.

Quality and privacy
A test you can trust
- 3,000 questions, written for this test and checked question by question. The test picks from a large pool, so students next to each other rarely get the same questions.
- Developed by Education House Language School, Bangkok, following the Thai Basic Education Core Curriculum and reporting on the CEFR.
- A licensed private school. Education House Language School is licensed by the Office of the Private Education Commission (OPEC), Thai Ministry of Education – school code 1110204824. Check on the OPEC website
- Fair Speaking marking: if the computer can’t hear an answer clearly, it asks the student to try again instead of giving zero. Unclear answers are checked by a teacher.
- Your data stays with us. Results are stored on Education House’s own server in Thailand. We never ask for a national ID number. Speaking recordings are deleted after about one year. Privacy Policy
The Education House English Proficiency Test is an independent test developed by Education House Language School, a private school licensed by the Thai Ministry of Education (OPEC). It reports results on the CEFR scale. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Council of Europe, Cambridge English, IELTS or TOEIC.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How long does the test take?
About 40 minutes. The test stops each part as soon as it has measured your level, so it is often shorter.
How should I prepare?
You don’t need to. Just make sure your device, headset and internet work, and do the test in a quiet place.
How much does it cost?
The normal price is 499 THB per test. For a limited time, the introduction price is 249 THB. Buy 5 tests and pay for 4: 5 tests cost 996 THB. A retake costs 249 THB.
Do I need to come to Education House?
No. You sign up, pay and take the test online, from home or the office, whenever it suits you. Schools and companies can book group testing – contact us on LINE @educationhouse or at [email protected].
Is it the same as IELTS or Cambridge exams?
No. It is Education House’s own test. Like those exams, it reports your level on the CEFR scale, so you can compare your level with their requirements.
Where is the certificate accepted?
It is commonly used for school and course placement (including EP/MEP programmes), progress reports, portfolios, CVs and job applications. Each school, university or employer decides which certificates it accepts, so check with them if you need it for a specific purpose.
Can I use it instead of IELTS, TOEFL or TOEIC?
Not where an organisation requires one of those exams – for example for visas, government posts or some university admissions. Our test is a fast, affordable way to know your level and track progress, and the CEFR result helps you see how close you are to the level those exams ask for.
Can I take it again?
Yes. A retake costs 249 THB. Sign up and pay online in the same way, and you receive a new username and password.
What happens if my internet stops?
Your answers are saved. When the connection is back, the test continues where you stopped.
How is Speaking marked?
Speech recognition on our own server compares your answer with the accepted answers. When it is not sure, a teacher listens and decides.
How long is the certificate valid?
The certificate shows your English level on the date of the test. Many schools and employers ask for a result from the last one or two years.
How can someone check my certificate?
They scan the QR code on the certificate or enter its number at cefr.eh.ac.th/verify.
Can parents help their child during the test?
Please don’t. The result is only useful when it shows what the child can do alone.
